Frequently asked questions
Select a question to expandDo I need an account to chat with Mia?
Yes. You can browse the conversation catalogue and preview scenarios without an account, but you must log in to start, send replies, or resume a conversation. You will return to your chosen scenario after logging in.
What can I practise?
The catalogue covers A1 and A2 conversations for introductions, family, home, school, food, travel, free time, and everyday services. Each shareable scenario has a role and three focused goals.
Can I speak instead of typing?
Yes. Your browser or device turns a short spoken reply into editable text. Review the transcript, correct any recognition mistakes, and then send it. If browser speech recognition is unavailable, you can still type.
Does Mia assess my pronunciation?
No. AI Conversations uses a transcript to continue the role-play and cannot judge pronunciation from the text. Use Pronunciation Coach for sound-level practice.
What do the coach notes mean?
A coach note is one brief suggestion about useful grammar, vocabulary, or natural phrasing. It is learning guidance, not an official CEFR or examination score.
What happens to my recording and messages?
Speech recognition is handled by your browser or device; this site does not upload microphone audio to its speech-analysis service for this feature. The active conversation can recover after a page refresh in the same tab. Returning through the AI Conversations catalogue, changing scenarios, or choosing Start over begins a clean conversation.
Should I enter real personal details?
No. Use fictional details for names, bookings, workplaces, interviews, and similar role-plays. Never share passwords, payment details, or sensitive personal information.
Useful phrasesA few words to get you started.
Try adapting one of these phrases in your own words:
- Yes, please. Where can I find the rice?
- Could you tell me how much these apples cost?
